Besides, it also protects additional 119 mammal species, 350 species of plants, 202 colorful butterflies, over 360 bird species and mountain gorillas share the same habitat with chimpanzees, red tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys to mention but a few. Trekking with mountain gorillas while on your 8 days Uganda safari in Bwindi begins from any of the park’s 4 main trailheads of Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Buhoma which harbor 20 habituated families of mountain gorillas.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: The journey to Kibale National Park – Kabarole district.

Wake up early for breakfast and after, meet with your trip leader for briefing on your holiday in Uganda for 8 days. After, expect to be part of the 5-6 hours’ drive journey to Kibale Forest National Park through Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal (where lunch break will be had) in Tooro Kingdom then you proceed to the park to check into your lodge for refreshing evening and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kibale Forest (Chimpanzee Tracking & Nature walk – Bigodi Wetland).

Have breakfast and later, assemble at Kanyanchu Tourist Centre where you will attend briefing about Kibale chimpanzee tracking guidelines starting from 6:30am-8:00am. With all your tracking essentials at hand, vacate the centre for chimp trek with lead of an experienced guide from Kibale trained by Uganda Wildlife Authority. The Kibale chimp trekking takes 2-4 hours and photography, learning about behaviors of chimpanzees will be had for only 1 hour once you come across them.

After, return to settle down for your lunch and then proceed for nature walk in and around Bigodi Wetland. The Bigodi walk exposes you to more interesting primates, birds, mammals and after, return to your reserved accommodation to retire for the night.

Day 3: To Queen Elizabeth National Park (Game drive in Ishasha area).

Breakfast early and meet your driver guide for transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Lunch be had upon arrival at the lodge and your first game drive will be conducted in the southern sector – Ishasha for you to see the tree climbing lions resting on fig trees. Retreat afterwards and settle for dinner and overnight stay in your reserved lodge.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth N/Park – 2nd game drive & 1st boat/launch cruise

Rise up early for breakfast and after, vacate your lodge room to have the 2nd game drive experience in Queen Elizabeth N/Park – Kasese lasting for 2-3 hours. Today, you will take the Kasenyi Plains which gets you exposed to the parks big game including leopards, lions, buffaloes, elephants; varied antelopes, birds.

Retreat from your game sighting to settle for lunch break, relax and later, be part of the 2:00pm Kazinga channel launch tour also taking you about 2-3 hours. Here you will be exposed to mainly aquatic creatures especially crocodiles, hippos, birds.

Day 5: Maramagambo Forest (forest guided walk) & drive to Bwindi.

Wake up early to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and after, transfer to Maramagambo Forest-the habitat for chimpanzees, cave bats, dwarf antelopes, forest hogs, forest birds, several other primates.

Enjoy a forest walk while enjoying incredible sights of this dense rain-forest’s creatures. After, vacate Maramagambo for Bwindi impenetrable National Park with en-route lunch break.

Day 6: Bwindi (Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Batwa encounter).

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and after, settle at Bwindi offices for 6:30am briefing about rules to be observed while tracking mountain gorillas. This is a must-do for everyone on gorilla safari and it is during this period when allocation of gorilla groups will be conducted.

The actual trek commences at 8:00am but the entire adventure is generally unpredictable since it takes 2-6 hours and this is why we advise you to carry some snacks and bottled drinking water.

Expect to come across several other species but essentially, you will enjoy a complete 1 hour face to face with mountain gorillas upon locating them. Return afterwards to settle in your lodge before visiting the Batwa pygmy community for a memorable cultural experience.

Day 7: To Lake Bunyonyi (one of Africa’s deepest lakes).

Breakfast early morning and after, your tour leader will meet you prepared to transfer you to Lake Bunyonyi, a magical fresh lake with 29 dotted islands. This is where you will have a relaxed atmosphere on the lake shores or swim then the next day enjoy boat ride, bird sighting.

Day 8: Lake Bunyonyi boat ride & drive back to Kampala/Entebbe.

Get up for your cup of tea/coffee and after, go enjoy Lake Bunyonyi boat ride-visit one of the 29 islands and don’t miss to sight the little birds. Retreat afterwards prepared to take a long return journey to Kampala/Entebbe with en-route stopover at Equator crossing.
