With the 2 days Rwanda gorilla safari, you stand a chance to strike your imagination with mountain gorillas in the wild. This short gorilla tour will take you up-to Volcanoes National Park, Northwestern Rwanda to trek and meet elusive mountain gorillas regardless of your budget or if you have limited time.
This 160sq.kms conservation area is one of the 4 places where mountain gorilla treks are carried out and it has a composition of 10 habituated groups set for gorilla trekking.
Volcanoes National Park is just 2 to 3 hours’ drive from Kigali capital city. En-route to this park, view the rolling hills and magnificent surrounding areas. In addition to gorilla trekking, this tour also takes you through the Kigali city expedition. A Kigali city tour is amazing as you explore in-depth information about the 1994 Rwandan genocide and also visit other historical sites.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Depart Kigali for Volcanoes National Park after city tour
Begin your gorilla excursion to Volcanoes National Park with an early morning breakfast or upon arrival and later, Kigali city tour. Enjoy beautiful view of Kigali capital, visit the Gisozi genocide site (this gives insight on 1994 Rwanda genocide), visit the local markets and others.
Proceed to Ruhengeri after lunch and upon early arrival, you may choose to visit Ibyiwacu cultural village or just have a relaxed evening at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking & back to Kigali
Have an early morning breakfast and after, transfer to Kinigi offices for briefing. This is a day you get to understand the gorilla trekking rules before setting off on actual trek to view mountain gorillas.
Today, we encourage you to come with required gear, packed lunch and bottled water. Your navigation to see gorillas in the wild takes 2 to 6 hours and it all depends on how fast you walk or nature of the habitat.
A close encounter with the gorillas will be had for a maximum of 1 hour and after, get back to meet the driver for return trip to Kigali. Today, you will be dropped off at the airport or to the hotel and this marks the end of your 2 days Rwanda gorilla safari.
