Bwindi in particular is surrounded by 3 Southwestern districts of Kabale, Kisoro and Kanungu districts just at close border with the D.R. Congo. The 20 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi are distributed within 4 regions.
Each of the gorilla groups that is booked is trekked by 8 tourists per day. In Ruhija, 4 gorilla groups can be trekked and they include Mukiza, Oruzongo, Bitukura and Kyaguriro. Buhoma has also 4 groups which include Habinyanja, Katwe, Rushegura and Mubare; Nkuringo area with 3 gorilla families including Christmas, Bushaho and Nkuringo gorilla families. Rushaga with the highest number about 9 groups and they include Nshongi, Busingye, Mishaya, Bweza, Bikingi, Kutu, Kahungye, Rwigi and Mucunguzi.
